The California city of Manhattan Beach came together Friday night to support a local black family whose home was firebombed last week in an apparent hate crime.
Hundreds filled the town plaza with candles and chants of peace, sending a strong message to the suspected perpetrators that there is no place for hate in their city. (Watch news coverage of the vigil here.)
Ron Clinton, whose home was targeted, told the Daily Breeze, “When it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us.”
On Wednesday morning a tire soaked in gasoline was reportedly thrown at Clinton family's front door. Clinton escaped unharmed along with his three children and their dog. His wife was not at home, though she later told the Los Angeles Times that she believes the attack was "race-related."
Authorities are still investigating the crime.
