Not in Our Town announced today that Gov. Steve Bullock and four Montana city mayors will join the community, law enforcement, business, faith, education, arts, labor, and youth leaders at the National Leadership Gathering in Billings June 20-22. Gov. Bullock and the Not in Our School/Not in Our Town community will be joined by Bozeman Mayor Jeff Krauss, Missoula Mayor John Engen, Helena Mayor Jim Smith, and Billings Mayor Tom Hanel.

What is the societal stereotype of a beautiful woman? How many women really fit that image? Stereotypes are a normal way humans organize the world in our minds, so what harm can a simple stereotype about beauty do to the vast majority of people who do not fit that image? And what about people who get stereotyped as "not smart" or "fat?” What about a whole ethnic group that gets stereotyped?

This post is part three of a three-part blog series that explores how to help students transform bullying behavior. The series mirrors the three levels of intervention outlined in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Level One applies to the 80 percent of students who are responsive when explicitly taught about acceptable behavior. Level Two addresses the 15 percent of students who need social skills training and tools to help them stop bullying.
