Middle School Student Near Ferguson, MO Interprets Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's Dream

In this final week of Black History Month, we share this short video featuring a middle school student's reflection on how the Civil Rights movement and the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is still relevant today.

Carlissa Hinton, an 8th grade student, is named a 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical Contest winner for her speech interpreting Dr. King's dream.

Carlissa presents her speech here in front of classmates, the school principal and school resource officer at Central Middle School, Riverview Gardens School District, in St. Louis.

Just miles from where Michael Brown, an unarmed teen was shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Carlissa and her fellow students are learning about the Civil Rights movement and how it impacts their lives today.
