The goal of all community minded police officers should be to make themselves obsolete. Sgt. Jessica Hawkins, the Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit (GLLU) supervisor for the Metro D.C. Police Department, says that’s an ideal situation.

San Francisco’s Asian American community has mobilized in recent weeks in response to a series of anti-Asian hate attacks. Rallies across the city were held to send a clear message that the community was united against hate.

In addition to NIOS Spanish resources, a great collection of additional resources about preventing and addressing bullying are written in the Spanish language. Some are found on bullying prevention websites in Spanish speaking countries, while others are translations of English materials on US websites. This blog provides is a brief overview of these materials. Some are one page overviews while others are longer guides. These materials can be used for individual use and for training sessions. We also are sharing websites with additional information, tools, and services in the United States as well as Spanish speaking countries.   ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Hassan Aden says an effective police chief must focus not just on what’s going on in his department, but be transparent with those outside of it. “In order to change the culture, they have to latch onto you, believe in you,” Aden said. “The reality is that a new chief has to remain apolitical, but be politically adept.”
