How do we support our young people in the face of political divisions? Students in Bloomington Normal, IL are sharing core values on how to interact. This election is affecting Americans on a personal level perhaps more than any election in our lifetimes. Young people on both sides of the political divide are taking the rhetoric and the election results to heart. In Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, the Not In Our School chapter is helping students navigate post election conflict

The community of Bloomington-Normal rallies behind the Taylor family after a neighbor makes false accusations and police are called. The Not In Our Town group organized a car rally to show support for the Taylors and donate money to the Not In Our School Book Club. What can we do to make everyone safe in our communities? When asked if he would speak out against white supremacists at the Oct. 29 debate, President Trump responded with a taunt. The president refused to condemn the Proud Boys, telling them instead to “stand back and stand by.” It was a clear message for the far-right, male-only group known for brawling in the streets with left-wing protesters.
