I pledge to stand up to all forms of hate, bigotry and bullying. I will not stay silent in the face of intolerance based on race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, religion, ability or any other factor. I will work together with my neighbors to create safer, more inclusive communities for all.
When you read this pledge, what thoughts come into your head? What does it mean to not stay silent in the face of intolerance based on race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, religion, ability or any other factor? If you could envision a safe, and inclusive school, what would it look like? How would students treat each other? What would was the staff do?
When one student explained the power of making a pledge, he gave the example of the Pledge of Allegiance to explain the enduring power of a large group committing to a pledge.
The 2015 NBA National Champions, the Golden State Warriors, are supporting NIOT with their pledge against bullying.
Take The Pledge
This year for bullying prevention month, Not In Our School urges young people and adults to “Take the Pledge” to stand up to bullying and intolerance. We are inviting student leaders and educators to bring the pledge to their schools, discuss what it means, and make a commitment to stand up.
Lesson Plan: Make the Pledge Meaningful Teachers and Student Leaders
You can download this lesson plan that includes discussion guides and activities that exemplify the pledge.
The NIOS Video Action Kit is on Sale for Half-Price
Also, just like last year, back by popular demand we have a half-price sale (originally $350, now $175 for a limited time) on our NIOS Video Action Kit.
If we all work together, we can truly create a safer, more inclusive community for all. During bullying prevention month, we also will be featuring more messages making meaning out of of the pledge and will share innovative ways to tackle bullying and cyber-bullying.
