Only two years ago, on January 6th, our country witnessed an insurrection that caused dangerous threats to our democracy when more than 2,000 rioters entered the Capitol Building by force in an attempt to overturn the results of a democratic election. Since then, the government of the people has come to understand and heed the indicators of hate and divisions that continue to tear our country apart. As our communities face these searing divisions, Not In Our Town has been a partner in helping to secure our neighborhoods, faith facilities, and schools from further harm.
Not In Our Town will continue to cover the stories of communities bridging differences and standing together against hate. We will continue to mobilize actions to provide voice to community. One of our central goals in 2023 is to help create trust amongst communities and encourage the reporting of hate and bias incidents. We know that we are up to the challenges we face because we have confidence in our partners at the local, state, and national level. We also have confidence in our resolve and in humanity itself.
We wish you all hope and joy in 2023. May you be surrounded by love and the people you cherish. May we all prosper and help our country fulfill its promise, a democracy for all people.
